These prostitutes’ calling cards from the 1930s were discovered at the estate sale of a San Francisco vice cop by X-Ray editor Johnny Brewton. Seen from this day and age, the printed fronts of the cards strike one as amusingly quaint; their handwritten flipsides offer more explicit—and often poignant—details.

Johnny Brewton is the owner of the X-Ray Book and Novelty Co., co-editor of Bagazine (a branch of X-Ray) with his wife Giselle, and a designer at Mutato Muzika. In 2014, he founded the international movement The Kut-Uups! to promote the disfiguration and beautification of the mundane. He lives and works in San Francisco.
