The Esopus Foundation is excited to announce that an exhibition focusing on the Esopus archive will take place at the Colby College Museum of Art from February 16 to May 14, 2023. The show, installed in the Museum's Davis Gallery, will feature a broad cross-section of materials from the archive, including issue mockups, manuscripts, correspondence, original artworks, and artists’ editions, as well as selected works by Esopus contributors from the Museum's comprehensive collection of contemporary art. It will also include a series of events related both to the publication and to Esopus Space, the exhibition and performance venue operated by the Esopus Foundation from 2008 to 2011 in New York City.
The exhibition is co-curated by Megan Carey, Colby Museum's manager of exhibitions and publications, Esopus editor Tod Lippy, and Fannie Ouyang, the visual and interdisciplinary arts librarian at the college, and will also include the participation of Colby professors Gianluca Rizzo and Gary Green, as well as assistant manager of exhibitions and publications and Lunder chief curator Beth Finch.
In 2019, the complete Esopus archive was acquired by Colby College Libraries under the leadership of Director Emeritus Lareese Hall.
