Esopus Archive Acquired by Colby College Libraries

September 9, 2019

The Esopus Foundation Ltd. is excited to announce that the complete Esopus archive, comprising 53 boxes of correspondence, manuscripts, press sheets, issue mockups, artists’ editions, and more than 300 original artworks, has been purchased by the Colby College Libraries.

The acquisition was spearheaded by Director of Colby Libraries Lareese Hall, who remarked,
“Colby College Libraries are a part of a vibrant and active teaching and learning community. The addition of the Esopus archive builds upon established research collections while also opening the door to expanded collection development, programs, and projects related to small press publishing, book arts, and zines. The interdisciplinary and collaborative ecosystem of a small liberal arts college with a world class museum is the ideal setting for this collection to connect to teaching, scholarship, and research both within and beyond the classroom.”

We can't imagine a better home for these materials, and we look forward to a longstanding relationship with Colby staff, faculty and students, not to mention the residents of Waterville, Maine, where the college is located. We are also grateful for the support provided by this purchase, which will help cover programming and operational expenses of The Esopus Foundation Ltd. in the future.
